Welcome to Widows and Widowers!
I am grateful for the interest I have received from widows and widowers who would like to contribute their thoughts and ideas here! I want this to be a safe place for you to share what is on your mind and give and receive support from others who are also experiencing their own grief journey.
Here is the link to register to be an author: Register. It is very simple to register and once you are on board, you can fill in your bio, your web site, and other information to link yourself to this site. Cool!
Don’t worry if you don’t consider yourself an “author.” And if you are an author, wonderful! This is about sharing whatever is on your mind about widowhood, grief, loss, reinventing yourself, struggles and successes, pain and joy, and a host of other topics I am sure you will think of.
Thank you for your interest and welcome aboard! I appreciate you, Michelle

From the desk of Michelle E. Vásquez

What I’m excited about this week!
Over the years my clients have told me repeatedly that I should write a book. My late husband, Al, said I had to write a book. My friends have encouraged me to write a book. So, I’ve begun my writing process with an audio book about marriage. It’s not a big book, but it is a book. An e-book, to be specific, along with an audio. I’ve been working on this audio book all week so I could tell you about it today! It’s called
Making a Happier Marriage Today:
Ten Secrets for Creating the Marriage of Your Dreams.
I’m offering it, along with the e-book, at an incredibly affordable price. Click here to learn more.
What’s New?
I’ve been working on my audio project, getting my late husband’s Toastmaster speeches together so that I can record them. I don’t want his words of wisdom, hope, and inspiration to remain sitting in my computer. I believe the world needs Al Vásquez’s message and I intend to bring it out, dust it off, and offer that message to you very soon. I wrote about it recently and asked for your comments. I did get some wonderful feedback, which I really appreciate. That post is here.
Last Friday I celebrated Al’s memory and life with my new husband, Javier and you an read the blog post here.

Three Years Out
For the newly widowed, I do remember your pain. You will not believe me when I say it gets easier. I didn’t believe people when they said it to me.
After Al died I continued to go to the church services in the little church we joined before he died. I would sit in the back row, as far as I could be from others, and let the tears fall for the entirety of the service. It was awful. Read the rest of this entry »

Today marks the third anniversary of the day my late husband, Al Vásquez, died after losing the battle to metastatic renal carcinoma (kidney cancer). I am so blessed that my new husband, Javier, is willing to spend the day honoring Al’s memory.
Who could ask for more than a compassionate husband who says, “I wish I could have met Al. I think I would have liked him.” We are spending the early part of the day at Disneyland, my personal happy place. Neither Al nor Javier really understand how much of a Read the rest of this entry »

My late husband’s musings on marriage
You and I are like two little kids walking down the same road. We choose to keep the same pace so that we remain side by side. We like each other’s company and, besides, walking side-by-side has the added benefit that when either one of us trips, the other is there to help. Isn’t that the whole point?

My late husband’s Toastmaster speeches
I want to create some audio downloads of Al’s Toastmaster speeches. He had a very powerful writing style and his speeces were memorable and inspirational. I have had them sitting in the computer for 3 years and they need to be retold.
His stories come from everyday personal experiences, some of which we have all had. One, called “The Panhandler,” takes a familiar site and turns it into a lesson about gratitude and how what he witnessed touched his Read the rest of this entry »
